What Is Your Favorite Picture Book?
![]()
If you frequent this blog, it is likely that you have noticed my love of Picture Books, as I seem to review them all the time. Now, we all know that not all Picture Books are created equal. (I could tell you about some *very* boring examples of the genre…but I don’t want to put you to sleep.) I have recommended a few fabulous ones by now, but I would like to know the name of your favorite picture book(s). Yes, I want to make a list of cool books to check out when I change jobs. Do you fancy Frederick? Do you like Lyle, Lyle Crocodile? Or, do you prefer the Pigeon? Let me know!

Ah… I have to prove myself very boring here… I have two — both children’s book. The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Runaway Bunny.

Ah, Stephanie! Those are classics! And, I should point out, they are classics for a reason. They are fabulous. Great Choices. My favorite as a child (after Pat the Bunny) was Goodnight Moon.

Goodnight Moon is my husband’s favorite! Therefore, our son will not allow ME to read it — only Daddy.
Seems fair.
And I love Pat the Bunny, too. But not all the knock-offs they added afterwards!

I agree. Pat the Bunny was the best, all the rest were just imitators. Have you read Frederick?

Ah yes. We like Frederick. His temperament fits my son well.

Personally, I’ve always been partial to Angelina Ballerina. And now there’s a whole series!

This is such a tough question for someone like me, who deals with picture books all the time. But here goes. I have two favorites that I discovered as an adult: Bark, George and Love You Forever. Two from when I was a kid: Where the wild things are, and CDB.

Liz - Have you seen the cartoon? Great voice talent.
Dan - Yeah, I know that this is a difficult question for you, as you seem to live in the picture book section. Did you read Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich? Does George like “Bark, George”?

Randy’s Dandy Lions or just about any other book by Bill Peet. You can see his work in Disney animation from the fifties and sixty.

Oooo! One I don’t know. Thanks, Rebekah.
