J.R.R. Tolkien’s New Book

Guess what? J.R.R. Tolkien has a new book coming out on 17 April 2007! The Children Of Húrin takes place six thousand years before the destruction of the one ring, in a time when Middle-earth is under the shadow of the Dark Lord, Morgoth. This book is the result of the tireless efforts of Mr. Tolkien’s son Christopher, who has spent the last thirty years working through all of his father’s unpublished drafts and background notes. (Christopher Tolkien has previously presented parts of his Father’s vast quantity of unpublished work in a series called The Histories of Middle-Earth.) The Children of Húrin was compiled with a minimum of editing from several drafts. Alan Lee has also contributed some new art to this book. May I just say…I am *so* there! I loved The Lord of the Rings, and I have a few of The Histories of Middle-Earth. I must own this book.

I’ll be buying this for my girlfriend, as she’s the biggest Lord of the rings fan in the world… I’ve lost count of the amount of times she’s read the darn things. I’ve only just caught on, reading The Hobbit last year and loved it so this is a definite. I just hope it’s more JRR’s work than his son’s tbh.

I saw this story a few weeks back but forgot to blog about it, thanks for the reminder… I’ll link you :)

    Why thank you, Dave. :)

I hope it’s his, too. It sounds like that’s the case.

And I heard it hear first!

This is hugh! Tolkien has always been one of my most favorite writers. Christopher has done great work editing his father’s creation. Unfinished Stories was a great accomplishment but this has got to be something even greater! Thanks for the info.
    cheers

I can’t wait for this book to arrive in stores.

  7. Pop Buzz UK » Blog Archive » J.R.R. Tolkiens The Children Of Hurin Says:

[...] J.R.R. Tolkiens The Children Of Hurin April 18th, 2007 by DaveP The first new proper book by J.R.R. Tolkien for twenty years was released worldwide yesterday and immediately sold out in many stores throughout the UK. The Children Of Hurin deals with the race of men, and Hurin, a hero of the first age. Set long before the time of The Lord Of The Rings, it’s set in middle earth long before there was any sign of Hobbits. The story features Elves and Dwarves, though a more sinister race than the ones we know and love from the Lord Of The Rings. In this book, Sauron is only the lieutenant of Morgoth, the fallen Valar, rather than being the uber villain we have grown up with. [...]
