How Many Books Did You Get For Christmas?

by Elisa

Well, I’m still up the mountain at my in-laws. So far I have received two books for Christmas. I am told that others are on their way, so I will keep you updated. Did y’all get any books? If so, which ones? Merry Christmas!

  1. Jill Says:

So far I got “Bad Behavior” by Mary Gaitskill. But I think I am still getting more. What did you get?

PS Do you know about Augusten Burroughs, author or Running With Scissors (which has now been made into a movie)? It’s an awesome book/memoir, but apparently he pulled a James Frey. You can read about it in this months’s Vanity Fair — kind of interesting.

  2. Allison Says:

I got The Poisonwood Bible and two copies of Naria–one in a boxed set and one in a single big book.

  3. Jaime Says:

I’m soooo excited - I received “Crusader” by Sara Douglass, the last of the series I’ve been reading!

    Merry Christmas!

  4. Gillian Says:

I got no books at all. Friends have let me borrow some of theirs so I don’t feel so left out. The most exciting of the borrowed books are Kate Grenville’s The Secret River and David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas.

  5. Elisa Says:

Wow! Y’all replied to my X-mas post. I’m still sitting at two books. Gillian, sorry to hear that you haven’t received any new cookbooks at least.

  6. Erik Says:

I got the latest from Erik Larson (writer of the most excellent “Devil in the White City”), “Rebel Angels,” a couple of Indiana Jones paperbacks (original stories), a couple of ones about the TV series “Deadwood,” a Jane Austin murder mystery (where she is the main character) that looks fun and Jane Austen’s history of the British Royalty wich has been a hoot so far. So all in all, a pretty good haul!

  7. Elisa Says:

    Well, so far I have:
    $10 Borders gift card
A tiny Nancy Drew advice book
    and
The Adventure of English: The Biography of a Language

Erik, what is the title of the Jane Austen book?

Jill, obviously I need to go look at our copy of Vanity Fair.

  8. Frances Says:

I got 1491, which is an informative history of the Americas…

  9. Elisa Says:

Frances, who wrote it? It sounds interesting.

  10. Erik Says:

I’ll look it up when I get home…can’t remember off the top of my head. It’s wonderful. Oh, I also got a book of the 100 Best Beatles songs, with lots of fun info and trivia bits. :-)
