Do You Have A Favorite Reading Spot?

by Elisa

Yesterday, JM over at Fiction Scribe asked for folks to send her pictures of their desks/creative spaces, and it got me to thinking. In these hectic days where we tend to cart our reading material around with us, else we’d never find the time to read, what do folks consider their favorite reading spot? I mean, ideally we would all have either huge comfy chairs to curl up in or lovely shady trees to sit under (like Frodo at the beginning of Fellowship), but how often is that really the case? So, to begin with, I offer you a pic of my favorite reading place:

This is my couch (currently being haunted by my ghost pillow as you can see). My couch is actually quite comfy, but the arms are not. Just add a pillow and *presto* a comfy spot to enjoy some reading. It is not safe to move from a sitting up position on this couch, however. Once you have gone from sitting to reclining, you will fall asleep. Trust me. It is safer than reading in bed, though. The only downside to this spot is the proximity of the television, so it only works out when I’m home alone.

Do you have a favorite reading spot? Would you like to tell me about it? Why not email me? I’d love to see your reading spots (if you would like to send along a pic) and/or hear about why you enjoy your particular spot.

So, watch this space. I hope to start featuring reading spots soon.

I don’t have a favourite reading spot and I so need one. I think not being comfortable is my biggest problem when it comes to reading; some part of my body always aches after a while :S
    Loved the ghost pillow :D

I can’t give you a picture unless you want one of a random street. My quiet time for reading is often on my way to or from somewhere, on a bus or walking. I could give you a picture of my handbag, in which usually resides a book :).

My favorite reading spot is actually on an airplane, as weird as that sounds! I typically have little time to read, and when I’m on an airplane there’s not much else I CAN do, so I can indulge in a good book without feeling guilty like I’m wasting time. Plus, it’s usually fairly quiet, my cell phone is turned off, and they provide a reading snack!

I have two actually. One is right on my couch curled up with the gobs of pillows on it and the other is near my home. There is a center piece near the center of town with plants, benches and such. It over looks an icecream parlor and the center. I love it. In all the hustle and bustle I am invisible and read on one of the benches enjoying the weather!

  5. Deanna Says:

I generally only read in bed, so I suppose that would be my favorite spot. It is about the only place quiet enough in my house to focus on what I’m reading.

  6. Heather Says:

I usually only read in bed too, it’s the only time of day that I get a minute to myself!

  7. Elisa Says:

Wow! Thanks y’all. If you have any pics, feel free to send ‘em my way. It looks like I might have a couple of posts out of this. :)

I often read in bed, too, but then I tend to fall asleep while reading there.

  8. Debbie Says:

I like to read in the bathtub. :)

  9. Elisa Says:

I used to write in the bathtub…
