Kitty Kelley has announced that the subject of her next unauthorized, tell-all biography is Oprah. No word yet as to title or when the book will appear on store shelves. Reportedly, Kitty Kelley has stated that she has a good opinion of Oprah, unlike the Bushes who were the subject of one of her most recent books. Good luck, Oprah.

Okay. I’m not sure how I feel about this one, but the IMDB now has a listing for a film version of A Spell for Chameleon by Piers Anthony. It’s targeted for release in 2008. Now, I have found that many of this sort of film project end up getting scrapped. Artemis Fowl, for example, lingered for a couple of years as “announced” on the IMDB before finally fading from view. All I can say is…I have a love/hate thing with Piers Anthony books. I read the first of a series and enjoy it (as I did with this first of the Xanth series.) Then I try to read the second one and never finish it. Maybe I just get bored easily, I don’t know. In any case, I shall be interested to see what becomes of this film. Do you suppose that they will actually film it in Florida?
Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel (revised in 1831), Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus, is coming to the stage again in 2007. This more serious adaptation isn’t so much a “musical” as “bold new theatrical experience,” apparently, but it will be full of music. The authors of this new “experience” have chosen to tell the story in flashbacks, and are trying to stay faithful to the original storyline. It should be interesting to see what they come up with. Either way, it has to be better than the Kenneth Branagh film.

I’ve talked about my favorite library-related comic strip Unshelved and their interesting book reviews before. Well, I was just over in the section of their website dedicated to The Unshelved Book Club and I noticed something at the bottom of the page:
“Have a current or upcoming book you’d like us to feature? Please send it to:
Overdue Media LLC
Attn: Unshelved Book Club
2518 Royal Ct. E
Seattle, WA 98112-2248″
So, if there are any authors out there who would like Unshelved to review your book in their illustrated fashion…you may just get your chance. Consider yourselves informed.

So, remember O. J. Simpson, the guy who “didn’t do it”? Well, he has written a book called If I Did It. Uh…yeah. It would seem that proceeds from the sale of this “True Crime” novel will go to his children. Borders Group Inc. is planning on donating all of the money they get from the sale of this book to a charity for victims of domestic violence. Barnes & Noble says that they are just planning on selling it like any other book. Many smaller bookstores are saying they only plan to order the book upon request. The publisher of the book Judith Regan of ReganBooks, an imprint HarperCollins, maintains that she agreed to publish this book because she was herself a victim of domestic violence, and she hoped that he would finally confess. My opinion? I think that Mr. Simpson wants attention. I don’t plan on giving him any more.

Update: Well, apparently the book deal is now off…and all sorts of folks are arguing about who gets the money. I guess that there is still some money from the beginning of the book deal?
