Booking Through Thursday - The Library
It’s another prompt from Booking Through Thursday, and this week we’re talking about one of my favourite places – the library.
Whether you usually read off of your own book pile or from the library shelves NOW, chances are you started off with trips to the library. (There’s no way my parents could otherwise have kept up with my book habit when I was 10.) So … What is your earliest memory of a library? Who took you? Do you have you any funny/odd memories of the library?
My earliest memories of the library are going there with my parents and picking up my two favourite things – Animorph books (K.A. Applegate) and the old British comedy movies of Red Dwarf. I must have rented those books and movies dozens of times growing up.
The library was always a lovely place to me. The fact that you could get books and movies (and later CDs) for no money at all boggled my young mind. I loved going there because it was so quiet and I could wander through stacks of books. There were so many new things to read and explore.
Lovely.
My funniest memory of the library is when I was in high school and the drama club performed ‘safety kids’ for the youngsters. All five foot four inches (or I may have been five six by then) of me dressed up and pretending to be a kid… Yeah, funny and odd memories all at the same time, I think.
And these days, I go to the library mainly to work. Especially in the summer when the air conditioned building is such a wonderful thing to have.
