Booking Through Thursday - Bonus Treat
That’s right; today on Booking Through Thursday, we have a bonus prompt. I’m not sure if it’s a system hiccup or if she’s putting up two because next Thursday happens to be Christmas. Either way, I’m putting up both prompts today.
Booking Through Thursday - Treat:
“What is the best book you ever bought for yourself?
And, why? What made it the best? What made it so special?”
The first book that came to my mind when I read this question was “Writing Down the Bones” by Natalie Goldberg. My first year at uni was a bit hard for me and I had to deal with some depression and anxiety issues. One of the ladies I spoke to listened to be for a while and found out I’m a writer.
She then recommended Writing Down the Bones as a good sort of workbook to help me ground myself and find comfort with my writing. I went to a bookshop not long after and bought the book.
The book turned out to be all that and more. It was good for my mind, good for reconnecting me to my writing, and good for my writing skills. I still have the same copy of that book today and I often sit down to read a ‘chapter’ or two to reconnect when I’m feeling stressed or down.
I suppose, beyond the content, what made it and makes it so special is that it represents a time of struggle and strength in my life. The book represents a time when I could have just given up on everything, but instead, I chose to let the book help me and I got through the tough bits.
