Book Review: Cinderella Skeleton

As you may imagine, Cinderella Skeleton by Robert D. San Souci is the classic Cinderella story with a spooky twist. And yes, Cinderella *is* a skeleton, but then, so is everyone else. Except the Good Witch, that is. Cinderella Skeleton toils from dusk until dawn making her home look even spookier, until the day of Prince Charnel’s Halloween Ball. The storyline is fairly standard, with a couple of interesting deviations. Hint: she doesn’t just leave a shoe behind. This book tends to be popular with elementary school students. They are the ones who introduced me to this tale. I first thought, “Oh, you have to be kidding me. Cinderella Skeleton?? But then, I read it myself. I am still not sold on the artist’s use of color, but the cover and much of the detail is quite pleasing. The story itself rhymes and is good spooky fun. I recommend Cinderella Skeleton to folks who like slightly spooky tales with happy endings.
Also, this book has been made into a musical. Check it out! - http://www.rsansouci.com/pages/cskel_musical.htm

Hello. Just stopping in to look at the site. I’m new here at 451.
Just wondering if you’ve ever heard of Tim Dorsey? He’s my favorite author, but no one’s ever heard of him.
I’d love to see a review of one of his books.
Aaron.

Hmmm…I’ll have to see if I can get ahold of one of his books… Thanks for the tip.

This looks like something that Tim Burton would love to get his hands on–reminiscent of Nightmare Before Christmas and the Corpse Bride.
Ghoulish find!

The cover art reminded me of Tim Burton, too! This actually sounds very cute.

It’s a Goth kid primer! My eldest would probably like it. She’s a big fan of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ and ‘Corpse Bride’.

It is sort of Tim Burton-ish, now that y’all mention it.
