Book Review: AlphaOops

AlphaOops! The Day Z Went First is an amusing alphabetical tale written by Alethea Kontis and illustrated by Bob Kolar. I’ll bet that you can guess what happens in this book just from the title. That’s right! Z is tired of always going last, so he convinces A to let him go first this time. After that, things get a bit more complicated. Keep your eye on the little guy at the bottom of each page. He is madly trying to keep up with the new order of the letters. I don’t think that this book would work too well in a large storytime, but one on one it should prove most satisfactory. I predict that there will be much laughter involved. The illustrations are very detailed. If you keep your eyes peeled, you might just see some of the items from one letter’s introduction in the background of another picture. Too fun! I think that V is my favorite letter this time around. I encountered this book today when one of my friends at work recommended it to me. Good call Dan. AlphaOops is certainly worth checking out. I did. I even read it to my parents. They liked it too.

Is this by the same person who did the book about the states wanting to change places?? I can’t remember the title, but the artwork looks similar and the concept is similar too. It was SOOOO cute!

It doesn’t look like it. I was just over at her website (http://www.aletheakontis.com/bibliography.htm) and this appears to be her only Picture book. Now I need to find the one you are talking about. It sounds like fun. I want to read it.
