A Tuesday List with Morrie

by Elisa

Welcome to the Tuesday List. I am dedicating this week’s Tuesday List to my Nana, who says that Tuesdays with Morrie reminds her of my Grandpa Dan. (Yes, the book is on my ever expanding “to read” list.)

Anyway, this Friday is the very first Book Stacks Book Club, which I have decided to call Cover to Cover. Have you found a copy of the book yet? Also, my A Book By Any Other Name challenge has begun its second week. Can you come up with some titles? Check out Monday’s post for the rules.

Have you been reading anything interesting lately? Comment and let me know. And now, my current list:

The Children Of Húrin by J. R. R. Tolkien - The first book for Cover to Cover to be discussed on 25 May 2007, so be sure to get a hold of a copy before then.

Stephen Hawking’s A Brief History of Time: A Reader’s Companion edited by Stephen Hawking - I’m enjoying how this is both a biography and an informational science book. If you want to know more about the folks who figured out black holes, read this book.

Speaking of Silents: First Ladies of the Screen by William M. Drew - I need to finish this one soon, so that I can return it to the library.

Doctor Who: The Inside Story by Gary Russell - I’m slowly inching my way along.

Well, I have to go work on my Tolkien book. TTFN.

I am sad that I don’t have time to read The Children Of Húrin this week! :( I’ll have to catch up with the club next time.

  2. Dan Says:

Just started a book called The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue, about a boy and a fairy creature called a changeling that trades places with him. The chapters are in first person and alternate between the two characters. Pretty interesting and well written, so far.

  3. emma Says:

Just read Dan’s comment - I *loved* The Stolen Child.

  4. Elisa Says:

That’s okay, emma. The next book will be a lot shorter.

  5. Elisa Says:

Dan (come away o human child…) Hey, is this a new book or an older one?

  6. Dan Says:

The Stolen Child is new (2006), and the author’s debut.

  7. DaveP Says:

Have just finished reading “The Righteous Men” by Sam Bourne, and started on Stephen King’s “The Stand”. It’s one of those books I’ve owned and wanted to read for ages but always got sidetracked. I hope it lives up to the hype.

  8. Elisa Says:

    Eeek! The Stand.
Did you like The Righteous Men?

  9. DaveP Says:

I did enjoy it Elisa, although it was very much a Dan Brown clone, using a male and female team, code breaking, and bringing religion into the story.

As for The Stand, is that a good Eeek or a bad one? ;)

  10. Elisa Says:

    That was a scared “eek.”
