13 Books That I’ve Read More Than Once

Do you have books that you love so much that you have read them several times? I certainly do. One might go so far as to call some of my favorites my “default books.” Sometimes when I am in need of something good to read, and I can’t find anything good that strikes my fancy, I’ll just default to one of my favorites. There are some books out there that I have read more than fifty times over the years. I suppose that it’s like having your favorite meal at a particular restaurant. You always know it’s going to be good. Anyway, here is a list of thirteen books that I have read more than once. Do you agree with any of my choices? Do you have any of your own favorite multiple reads to suggest?

1. The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley
2. Aunt Dimity’s Death by Nancy Atherton
3. The Black Dudley Murder by Margery Allingham
4. Escape to Witch Mountain by Alexander Key
5. The Cater Street Hangman by Anne Perry
6. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters
7. Sabriel by Garth Nix
8. Over Sea, Under Stone by Susan Cooper
9. The Moon Singer by Clyde Robert Bulla
10. The Girl With the Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts
11. For Love of Mother-Not by Alan Dean Foster
12. The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
13. The Beekeeper’s Apprentice by Laurie R. King

  2. JM Says:

Hehe! I’ve read The Blue Sword dozens of times… including now. :)

  3. Susan Helene Gottfried Says:

Whoa. I haven’t read any of those!

Books I’ve read more than once… the first two Dragonriders trilogies by Anne McCaffrey (Dragonflight; et al and the Harper Hall trilogy) and the Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander.

Otherwise, most of my stuff arrives, gets read, and gets passed on.

  4. Mark Caldwell Says:

I’ve not read any of those once…

My repeatedly read books include Frank Herbert’s Dragon in the Sea along with the entire Dune sequence; Harry Harrison’s Stainless Steal Rat books; the Hornblower novels; Robert A Heinlein’s Citizen of the Galaxy and the Past Through Tomorrow antologies of future history stories; and JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

  5. Mama Pajama Says:

I’m feeling lame…the only one I read was Escape to Witch Mountain…wasn’t that also a movie with Angela Lansbury? Anyway, thanks for stopping by my site. I love Last Train to Clarksville….I went to see the Monkees on their revival tour in ‘87 or ‘88.

  6. Elisa Says:

jennifer, I know how you feel.

JM, Isn’t that a fab book?

Susan, I have re-read the Harper Hall and Prydain books multiple times. I think I would have done better with a Thursday 30 this week.

Mark, I loved Dune and LOTR.

Mama, no, but Bette Davis was in the adaptation of Return From Witch Mountain. Does that count?

  7. Tink Says:

I haven’t read all of those yet, so I’ll check them out for sure! I have so many books that I like to read again and again. The one I re-read most is definitely Lord of The Rings though.
Thanks for visiting my activities TT!

  8. The Gal Herself Says:

I’ve never read any of Meg Cabot’s books, but I’ve only heard wonderful things about her work. (Again here!) I’ll have to give her a try.

  9. Nicholas Says:

I havent read any of these I’m afraid. My TT is about books too. It just goes to show what a huge variety of books is available to us.

  10. WorksForMom Says:

    9. Borrower of the Night by Elizabeth Peterson
    10. Nevada by Zane Grey
    11. Under the Light of Western Stars by Zane Grey
    12. Her Majesty’s Rancho by Zane Grey
    13. The Drift Fence by Zane brey

  12. Elisa Says:

    Tink, LOTR is just fab.

Gal, Meg Cabot has a nice variety of books out there. She write adult romances, too.

Nicholas, that’s what makes books fun.

    Thanks, WorksForMom!

Why am I not surprised by the Zane Grey on that list, Debbie?

  13. Debbie Says:

Tee hee hee. Actually there are dozens of other Zane Grey novels I’ve read more than once. But still Snow Dog 300 times!!!
